Sunday Rides 14th October 2018

It’s going to be a busy weekend with lots of cycling. The main event is, of course, the Barry Covington memorial ride on Sunday. This was such a wonderful day last year and I hope as many of you as possible can join us in memory of our dear friend.

The start is at the usual place outside SE20 Cycles on Penge high street and we have staggered departures. The finish will be in a slightly different venue this year, 100 yards further down Burbage Road at the Edward Alleyn Sports club. Familiar to those who rode Ride of the Falling Leaves (ROTFL) last Sunday.

Sign up for the ride of your choice using the Rider HQ link below and be mindful of the speeds (we have mixed them up a bit!).

Cyclopark Gravesend – Saturday 13th October – 2.30pm

Paul Mill and his team at Elite are running another big session for us at the Cyclopark in Gravesend this Saturday and we have a few spaces if you wish to attend. Paul runs these sessions for us free as part of his sponsorship arrangement with us and we are massively grateful to him for this. The last session was very successful and we’ll always look to improve them.

If you have any feedback, speak directly with Paul after the session or with Kate. We’re all still learning how we can work with Elite and they with us. (It has taken Paul a while to get used to the ‘ride hard, party harder’ ethic of Penge CC!) The most important thing is to enjoy the session and learn from it to be a better rider. Last weekend – Cross, ROTFL and Catford

Last Sunday saw Penge CC at its best, taking part in and supporting with great enthusiasm across 3 big local events. From the oldest race, the Catford Hill Climb up the ghastly Yorks Hill where Tim, Dom, Ben etc did some incredible climbing and David took over the mantle of the most visible walk of shame from me.

A good sized group, mainly ladies, in the Falling Leaves ride, including Claire, Fiona, Lindsey and Mairead. Well done also to Pedro for completing his 100 mile fund raiser.

Then there was Cyclocross. Massive podium performances from Emma and Lucy Minns, strong rides from the seasoned vets; Seb, Tim, Paul, Stephen and a couple of new faces. One of whom, Ant, was pretty useful despite his shocking pink bib shorts, the other made the podium. Sort of.

Fireworks Saturday 3rd November 2018

Croydon Recreation Ground in Beckenham

Each year we provide volunteers to help at the fireworks display and earn money for the club. If you can help, check out the details on the website. It’s always a great event and the work is hardly taxing.

Brenda – stunning effort! Another great picture of bike held aloft with an Eiffel tower backdrop. Mighty impressive Justin and first time on the board Ped? Great riding all round.

I am choked I won’t be with you this weekend. I have a reasonable excuse in that Mrs H is carting me off to a boat in Greece to wonder at how we have managed 30 years of wedded bliss. (I think the secret is I spend all my time on a bike while she’s off sailing.)
