Rides Sunday 16th September 2018

At the risk of repeating myself, this is the plan for the weekend!

Time Trial

This Sunday sees the final Time Trial of 2018 on our usual Cudham circuit and the plan is to have a bit of end-of-summer fun rather than organise the usual set of rides that leave the shop in waves on a Sunday morning.

Those wishing to participate in the Time Trial look out for Tim’s posts on Facebook or go straight to the page on Rider HQ to book a Time Trial place.

For everyone else, we will have small to medium groups heading out to the TT course at Cudham Recreation Ground. The rides will leave SE20 Cycles as usual, between 7:30am and 7:45am.

When you reach Cudham Recreation Ground, you can either take an unhurried spin around the TT course before the racers (it’s not a race it’s a TT!) or just stay and cheer them off and back. Literally everyone is welcome – so please come and join in.

If you intend to join this supporters’ ride, please sign up on Rider HQ. This will help the group leaders.

There will then be some informal groups riding a variety of slightly elongated routes back to Penge, probably along the lines of our normal groupings. First, though, there will be cake. Quite a bit of it because I am in charge of getting the cake and I hate not having enough.

Penge CC Pub night – Friday 14th at 8pm – The Goldsmiths Arms

Drinks are on me apparently. Not sure how that happened. The last one of these ended up with the ‘Chalkpit challenge’. Who knows what will happen tonight.

Cyclo-cross in Crystal Palace Park – Sunday 16th September

A good few Penge riders are taking part in the second round of the London & SE Cyclocross league in Crystal Palace Park, Go-Riders and Adults. You could do the TT in the morning and watch the Cyclocross afterwards. Or even ride both? Hmmn. Races go in waves between 10.00am and 2.15pm.

Turbobeat is back – Wednesday 10th October

A new block of 4 Turbobeat sessions start on 10th October. Regulars don’t need telling, but for those of you who have not tried this, it is an excellent way to build and maintain a level of fitness. It’s almost impossible to fall off, you never get dropped, you are out of the weather and the traffic and it’s a fun, sociable way to get fit.

Book your Turbobeat sessions on RiderHQ.

Cyclopark 2

There are still a few spaces available on the next Cyclopark session. This is a free session for members at a closed road cycling circuit in Gravesend. It’s not about racing – though there are opportunities for a bit of a burn up for those who want it. Those of us who went on the first one all found it an incredibly valuable way to practice group riding, cornering and other techniques. It really is for everyone.

If you did the last one and want another go, contact Kate Vergette and get on the waiting list – we first want to make sure everyone has a chance to go.

Strava Leaderboard

Some stiff competition for the most bonkers riding this week. The Audax 3 (4 if you include David who needs to join the Strava group!) sweep all before them in the distances with their monstrous ride to Hull and back. Alex – not seen you for a long while. Alison and Kate. You ladies are quite something – anyone going to get close to you next week?

Look forward to seeing as many of you as The Goldsmiths can accommodate tonight and at the TT and Cyclocross.

Have a great weekend.

James.
