Easing of Lockdown Week 24, 4th September 2020

The Chairman, James Hanscomb, is away again which leaves you all in my sort-of incapable hands this Friday. Last week, James mentioned the administration of Sunday rides, which is something I’ve been trying to address since I was appointed to this role last year. It’s been a slow process but I am now beginning to look into alternatives to RiderHQ to make things easier for everyone.

If you’d like to be involved in testing a new system (or indeed, if you have any ideas of your own), please do let me know.

Sunday rides

Fingers on the buzzers and get ready to sign up on RiderHQ for the ride of your choice. It is open for booking at 6pm Friday. Don’t panic if you don’t get on a ride, we are putting on extra groups each week and please put your hand up if you’re okay to lead an extra group. Just let me know. More detailed instructions on the website.

I really could do with a leader for Short 2. Let me know ASAP if you fancy leading.

Emily Williams becomes the 6th Penge member to complete her Randonneur Round the Year (RRtY)! Nice work, Emily. This is one of the hardest audax badges to earn, as you have to complete a ride of at least 200km every month for a calendar year.

If you think you have an RRtY in you, give me a shout, I’m always more than happy to try and persuade another one of us round to the audax way.

Date for your diary

4th October – Barry Covington Memorial Ride

For those new to the club, each year at this time, we ride in memory of a member and great friend who tragically died whilst taking part in the amateur world championships. The format last year was a massive success – with rides in the morning and then meeting back at Herne Hill Velodrome and doing some Crit racing in the afternoon. (Penge style i.e. Some serious, some less so.)

More information to follow as we figure out what is possible – and we’ll be asking for volunteers to help organise.

Closing Thoughts

Have a great weekend!
