Easing of Lockdown Week 19, 31st July 2020

We’re often accused of being the snowflake generation. Well, maybe not my generation, more the millennials who are my children’s cohort. We’ve not really seen war and pestilence in our lifetimes, and you might have expected such a so-called soft generation to have been somewhat broadsided by this wretched Covid thing. I actually think we’re doing ok. No doubt, we have some tough times ahead economically and with an apparently inevitable second surge, but I have no doubt we’ll get through. We just adapt.

Our Sunday Rides routine has adapted and I’ve loved those smaller groups. There is nothing like having something you love, but take for granted denied you – to make you fully appreciate it.

We’ve even found post-ride coffee and now, joy of joys, the famous Rule #19 is back with a glorious garden for us to enjoy. Please help Winnie keep it safe by following the one-way system and don’t forget your mask!

Sunday Rides

If you want to ride, you need to be quick on to sign up on RiderHQ for the ride of your choice. It is open for booking at 6pm today (Friday).

(Note: the link above should show all Penge CC events, including Sunday rides available for booking. You won’t see this Sunday before the event goes ‘live’ for booking)

Six to a group, no waiting lists – let Niki know if you want to lead a second group. More detailed instructions on the website.

Kit collection – next Saturday 8th August 2020

Loren and I spent our last 2 Saturday mornings at the shop and it was lovely to see a few of you. Would have been even nicer if a few more of you could have come to collect your kit, because we can’t leave it at the shop and neither of us is around this weekend.

So, we’ll do one more. We will be at the shop on 8th from 9am to 11am. If you have ordered kit, Loren will have emailed you to remind you to come and collect. If you can’t collect (and I appreciate some have a good reason – like work!) try to find someone who can collect for you.

We know this system is not working as well as we’d like – and we do have a plan so bear with us!

New Socks

We have taken delivery of a new batch of socks – slightly longer in line with the style-police regulations and of a slightly lighter material. These will also be available to buy on Saturday 8th.

Yellow Caps

You may have seen the picture of Ben and I wearing those Yellow Penge caps. We had a special batch produced, exclusively for those who go the extra mile for the club. Read more about how to earn a Yellow cap on the website.

Strava Leaderboard

Impressive from Mike and Emily there. Good to see Stephen back in the groove too. Thea I am pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve seen you on the board. What an impressive week!

Closing Thoughts

Have a great weekend.

James Hanscomb, Chair of Penge Cycle Club.
