The Hell of the Ashdown theme tune

A day on the ice / in the life

I (finally) wrote a blog today oh, boy

About 12 men who made the gradient(s)

And though the day was rather cold

Well, we just had to laugh…

When we saw the team photograph

Nearly run over by dogs, deers & cars

They didn’t notice all the flashing lights we had

Up hills people stood & stared

They’d seen pained faces like these before

Nobody was really sure if they did it for pride or some reward

I saw a film on You Tube today oh, boy

A cyclist army had just beaten ‘The Wall’

A crowd of people never turned up for this ‘Hell’

But Penge were just resolute

Even having read the route

Oh I’d love to get off & push

Woke up, fell out of bed

Dragged my bike out of the shed

Ate my porridge downstairs and drank a cup

And looking up, I noticed I wasn’t late (a first)

Found my gloves and grabbed my hat

Grabbed spare inner tubes in case of a flat

Found my way to HQ and shared some jokes

And somebody said GO I went into a dream

Arggh (the ride had started, it was cold, we hit some ice….)

We rode many roads today oh, boy

Seemed like a thousand holes around the Ashdown

And though the holes were big & small

We had to dodge them all

As we know it only takes one slip for a nasty fall

Oh I’d love to be back hoooooooooooooooooooome

(With apologies to Lennon & McCartney)
