These races are designed to give young riders the chance to have a go at racing in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The races are part of British Cycling’s initiative, called ‘Go-Ride’.
Our local Go-Ride race league is called the South London Go-Ride Racing League
Penge CC Youth originally formed a beginners’ race league with our friends at Bigfoot Youth CC in 2008. These races are now also hosted with Herne Hill Youth CC and Limited Edition Cycling. You can find out about the latest races and results on the league website.
You don’t need to be a member of a club or have a British Cycling membership or a BC license, and you can ride any bike. In association with British Cycling’s Go-Ride Racing concept, these races are designed to encourage more young people into entry-level bike racing and are a stepping-stone between school or club coaching sessions and regional-level cycling competitions.
The league has eight races per season, with individual time trials and mass races for girls and boys at each event. All riders are placed in their age category (U6, U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16) for the events. We have an overall league competition, with winners in each of the different age groups, and again for girls and boys. The league is scored from the riders’ best results from 5 races out of the 8.
Types of racing have included:- cyclocross, road race, mountain bike and grass track. The races during the autumn/winter months are mostly on grass tracks, with races during spring/summer mostly on the tarmac.
