Fancy getting muddy but have reached S-1* and can’t justify another bike? The club owns 3 cyclocross bikes that are available for hire so you can give it a go without having to splash out on another machine. Our hire scheme is for first-claim members only. Here’s how it works:
Hiring the bike
- Check availability of the 3 bikes on the Kit availability Google sheet.
- Simply enter your name in the weeks you wish to reserve the bike. Don’t forget to delete your entry if you change your mind.
- Download the Kit hire agreement form, fill in and sign.
- Download the Bike hire terms form, read and sign.
- Go to SE20 Cycles with both completed and signed forms.
- Pay for the hire period.
- Take the bike, use it and look after it.
Using the bike
As it’s a cross bike we hope you will race at a cyclocross event. We expect the bike to get dirty and a bit battered over time, but you should look after it as if it were your own pride and joy. Broadly, if you bust it, we expect you to put it right.
Returning the bike
- Clean it and check it for any faults.
- Take it back to SE20 Cycles.
- Pay for any repair costs.
- Later returns† will be deducted from deposit.
- Please remember another member might be hiring it after you.
Cost
Hire period | Deposit | + Hire Charge | †Amount returned |

4 weeks | £50 | + £12.50 x 4 weeks = £50.00 | £50 † |
2 weeks | £50 | + £12.50 x 2 weeks = £25.00 | £50 † |
1 week | £50 | + £12.50 x 1 week = £12.50 | £50 † |

*S-1 – Rules according to the Velominati
Rule 12 – The correct number of bikes to own is n+1. While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.
