Penge Cycle Club is a community based cycle club, for kids, families and adults. Initially set up by Winnie Farquarson, Yvonne Wright and Jonathan Burns in 2009 as a youth cycle club run as part of British Cycling’s Go Ride initiative, the club has now developed into a wider family and adult club.
With our adult section we’re mainly set up for the non-competitive cyclist who is either starting out or is training for general fitness, sportive, audax, track and our own time trials and hill climbs. We do however have a growing number of ‘racing snakes’ who are putting in some impressive performances in local open hill climbs, cyclocross, tracks and crits.
The youth section naturally links in with the family section, where we try to encourage the parents to take their kids out riding. However we are also looking to provide rides and support for family’s who aren’t able to come along on Saturdays. The club is affiliated to British Cycling and has its own club strip in our colours of green, red and white.
The clubs spiritual home can be found in SE20 Cycles on Penge High Street, owned by club co-founder Winston Farquharson. Winnie is a top bike mechanic and road rider (has proudly hit 48 mph down Titsey hill) and is an ex. MTB pro, well he says he was…………….
The shop is the start point for rides. Discounts are offered for club members on equipment and bikes… And what’s more they are very friendly, so why not call in for a chat.
Thanks to everyone from the club who sent in photos and videos.
Now let’s get up to 400 members.
